GULL UAV: TRIALS
Warrior (Aero-Marine) Ltd has trialled a wide range of features on both GULL 24 and GULL 36 UAVs.
The tests in still conditions and strong winds have been reliable and the aircraft has shown no vices. The winds and short steep chop are typical of Seastate 4 offshore. The practices being developed are sure to enable operations in rougher conditions again, with simple systems to enable situational awareness.
Warrior has trialled the GULL under high speed tow. Some additional algorithms will be required to accommodate tow in crosswinds. This will enable launch and recovery to/from ship, with ship at speed on any point of wind, using a trailing link catch/release system. Warrior's Sled LARS (Launch and Recovery System) has already demonstrated these principles in real conditions at high scale speeds.
